FlexArm high precision mould grinding machine
For automotive plants, the maintenance and upkeep of tools and dies in their plants requires a more efficient and faster way to perform die maintenance, repairs and operations. For automotive press shops or other stamping industries a very large number of different tools are required, including multi-axis milling machines, so press plants have to perform most die grinding manually, but the efficiency of the grinding is not guaranteed.
Flex USA has responded to these industry pain points by introducing the FlexArm@ S-36-GB series and the M-60-GB series of high precision grinding machines.
The FlexArm@ S-36-GB and M-60-GB series both have motors with a speed of up to 20,000 rpm and an arm span of up to 1.93 m. This guarantees a wide range of grinding operations as well as a high grinding efficiency.
For step grinding, the traditional method of mould grinding, the FlexArm@ S-36-GB series and M-60-GB series grinding robotic arms can be fixed or moved by means of a magnetic base, making the grinding process simple and efficient. Specifically. Step grinding involves placing the grinding i.e. on its side and welding it to the ledge shears to grind the mould surface. It is then fixed to a stationary sander and that radius is rotated to bite it about 1⁄16 in. and 0.0040 or 0.0050 in. wide. Another grind, then roll the cylinder one fiftieth of an inch, another grind, roll it one fiftieth of an inch, then another grind, roll it. This involves constantly moving the pieces around the magnetic base so that they bite into one point and, when finished, mixing them by hand. This process is quite time consuming and tedious. In contrast, the FlexArm@ S-36-GB series and M-60-GB series grinding robotic arms articulate the die grinding arm to assist and speed up die grinding. The tool is a manual grinder fixed to an articulated arm equipped with a die grinding tip. It is mounted on a magnetic base that can clamp the mould or table. The workpiece is fixed to the table or vise. The toolmaker uses the articulated arm with the grinder to manually apply pressure to the surface where the metal is to be removed.
In short, with the FlexArm@ S-36-GB and M-60-GB grinding arms it is simple to move the arm within the arm's reach, without having to move the workpiece as with conventional sanders. The grinding time is considerably reduced and the FlexArm offers transverse grinding adapters with various deburring accessories to grind the workpiece in any part and in any direction.
